A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE ANUSHA VASAMETTI OF CLINTON HIGH SCHOOL FOR HER SELECTION AS A STUDENT ARGONAUT TO THE JASON PROJECT AND HER CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH ACTIVITIES IN THE RAINFOREST OF PERU.

WHEREAS, Anusha Vasametti, a sophomore at Clinton High School, was chosen to participate as a student representative to the JASON Project, a year-round scientific expedition designed to excite and engage students in science and technology and to motivate and provide professional development for teachers; and

WHEREAS, Anusha was one of only 25 students chosen from applicants all over the world because of her love of science and her outstanding academic achievement; and

WHEREAS, before going on the expedition Anusha had to conduct extensive research in geology, geography, archeology and biology to prepare for her interaction with thousands of students all over the globe through the Worldwide Web and live interactive television broadcasts; and

WHEREAS, in the first two weeks of March, Anusha joined Dr. Robert Ballard, one of our nation's leading scientists, and a team of researchers, students and teachers for two weeks exploring the tropical rainforest of Peru; and

WHEREAS, this team unraveled the mysteries of past and present rainforests, and gained the knowledge and tools for conserving these unique ecosystems for the future; and

WHEREAS, she is a member of the student council, President of the Technology Student Association and Secretary for the Community Cougars; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Anusha Vasametti for being chosen as a JASON Project Student Argonaut and her hard work representing Mississippi as a student argonaut in this year's JASON Project scientific expedition.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Anusha Vasametti and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
